A Search Engine Journal article posted last Jul 28 2019 states that a report from 9to5Google says that the old voice search icon that users have been used to will be replaced in the Google app by an Assistant icon.
In addition, the search bar widget will now replace “Say ‘Hello Google’” and will invite users to “Ask Your Assistant.” The voice queries will be done by the Google Assistant where the results will be shown in a slide-up panel.
